Hooray for me. My stupid trivia question got listed on the Eltingville contest/trivia thingy (it's the one listed as "Jason T. from TN"). FAME...you're all too cool to fool.

Mmmm...allergy meds and the overture to TOMMY. Frankly, I love it when rock acts sell their songs to commercials. Why? Because then there are always these big groups of disillusioned kids who then bitch about their rock heroes "selling out". Gee, and here I thought rock and roll biz was all about making money off your music. As Jack Black so succinctly put it in the song "Rock Your Socks Off": "There's no such thing as a rock prodigy / 'Cause rock and roll is bogus, right KG? Right!" And that's true. At what point did "selling out" become a monster? When Sgt. Pepper came to pass? Gimme a break. Sure, you see Britney Spears selling Pepsi and N Sync hawking Chili's restaurants, but then there's good ol' Pete Townshend whoring that slut Tommy of his for the zillionth time in a meds commercial. BRILLIANT, I say!

Think about all the new kiddies who will catch a bit of that commercial and hear an old fart, aged 29 years old such as myself go, "Ah, that's the overture to the Who's Tommy!" And then they go out and listen to the Who. Or how about all the sensitive teens that probably got out and grooved to Nick Drake when "Pink Moon" was shoved down their goozles thanks to Volkswagen? Who loses in these ads? Nobody! The acts get more record sales, and the companies have a cool soundtrack to sell their cars, food, and medications with. So to bitch about "Selling out" is to completely miss the point. Did ya catch the one a month back or so that featured The Beatles' "Taxman"? Is Harrison rolling over in his grave? Doubtful! Enjoy music, love it to death, but don't do the old routine of it all being high art. Punk is not high art and those bands are always screaming about not selling out. Even the Pistols fucking gave it a go with their Filthy Lucre tour, thumbing their noses in the fans' faces, and the fans bought it up! Baby, it's all just music in the end, good or bad. Now I got to get me a piece of that pie and start writing some hits!

Have been trying to get Patti signed up to be on this blog, but things haven't been working out for some reason. Actually, she did say she got the invite and posted something, but I damn sure don't see it if it is here. Hopefully we'll get things straightened out soon. On a better note, Linus of Hollywood completed our interview, and I must say it was great to get a chance to ask him some questions about all his current projects. The man's gotta be one of the busiest people in the music biz that I've talked to.
